Acting Up! Musical Theatre Class (1st-3rd)

Instuctor: Annie Venable

Email: annieven@earthlink.net

Phone: 321-917-0733

Tuition: $20 per month ($100 per semester)

Material Fee: $20 per semester; used to pay for music, props, sets, classroom and craft supplies, and possibly publisher/royalty fees.

Required Text/Supplies: Costume components and stage props may be requested

Pre-Requisites: None

Description: These young students will have fun learning a wide variety of musical concepts as well as basic theatrical components. The fundamentals of music (melody, rhythm, dynamics, steady beat) will be taught and reinforced through games, musical crafts, and hands-on-activities which will frequently utilize rhythm instruments, ribbon sticks, bean bags, parachute, and hand bells.  Fun songs will be incorporated periodically to teach Bible verses and other facts.  We will learn about famous composers and sing a wide variety of Christian and secular music.   (Contemporary Christian songs for a church service and 50’s songs for a nursing home are examples of past performances.)   In addition to music, drama activities and games will also be an integral part of this course. These exercises are designed to reinforce acting skills such as stage presence, vocal projection, improvisation, and choreography.  While this is a performance-based class, there will not be a lot of outside time involved.  My plan is do a simple musical drama (with costumes, set, and props) one semester and put on a short program for a nursing home and/or church service the other semester.  Parents will be provided with either a CD or links to the music that we are learning so that students can enjoy the songs at home.  I am looking forward to a great year making music together!

Music in Motion Class (3 yrs-K)

Instuctor: Annie Venable

Email: annieven@earthlink.net

Phone: 321-917-0733

Tuition: $20 per month ($100 per semester)

Material Fee: $15/semester; used to purchase music, classroom supplies, and craft supplies.

Required Text/Supplies: None

Pre-Requisites: If the maturity isn't quite there at three years old, the parent can stay for the first few classes to see if the class is a good fit.

Description: Students will have fun making a “joyful noise” while being introduced to the concepts of pitch, rhythm, and dynamics.   We will consistently utilize items such as rhythm instruments, ribbon sticks, scarves, bean bags, a parachute, and hand bells.  In addition to learning traditional children’s songs, music will be used as a medium to help the little ones hide God’s word in their hearts.  I especially enjoy teaching Bible verses and other concepts (colors of the rainbow, names of the planets, etc.) through songs. Active preschoolers will be kept engaged not only through music and motion, but also by the construction of several simple musical crafts.   Students will have the opportunity to perform in casual settings and we may even participate in singing Christmas carols or other songs at a nursing home; however, this class is non-performance based so performing in public is never “required”.  Parents will be provided with a CD or links to the music that we are learning so the children can enjoy the songs at home.  The Materials fee is $15.00/semester and will be used to purchase music, classroom supplies, and craft supplies.  I look forward to a great year making music together!

The theme of our class is “Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord!” (Eph. 5:19)

Advance notice will be given in regard to rehearsals.   I look forward to a great year with our awesome students!
