Description:     These young students will have fun learning a wide variety of musical concepts as well as basic theatrical components. The fundamentals of music (melody, rhythm, dynamics, steady beat) will be taught and reinforced through games, musical crafts, rhythm instruments, and hands-on-activities.  Fun songs will be incorporated periodically to teach Bible verses and other facts.  We will learn about famous composers and sing a wide variety of both Christian and secular music.,    In addition to singing, simple skits, drama activities and games will be an integral part of this course. These will be designed to practice team building and to teach acting skills such as stage presence, vocal projection, and improvisation. There will be at least one performance each semester. Performances may include singing for a Sunday church service, going to a nursing home or assisted living, going Christmas caroling, or putting on a concert for family and friends. (Contemporary Christian songs for a church service and 50’s songs for a nursing home are examples of past performances.)  Students will also have the exciting opportunity to participate in a musical drama (with costumes, set, and props).   Parents will be provided with either a CD or links to the music that we are learning so that students can enjoy the songs at home.  There may be a few evening practices (3-4) in preparation for the drama, but other than that no outside time should be required.  I am looking forward to a great year making music together!

Music in Motion Class (K3-K5)

Instuctor: Annie Venable

Email: annieven@earthlink.net

Phone: 321-917-0733

Tuition: $20 per month ($100 per semester)

Material Fee: $15/semester; will be used to purchase music, classroom supplies, and craft supplies.

Required Text/Supplies: None

Pre-Requisites: Although it's not a "Mommy and Me" class, a parent is always welcome to stay with an anxious little one for the first few classes while determining if the class is a good fit.

Description: Students will have fun making a “joyful noise” while being introduced to the concepts of pitch, rhythm, and dynamics.   We will consistently utilize items such as rhythm instruments, ribbon sticks, scarves, bean bags, a parachute, and hand bells.  In addition to learning traditional children’s songs, music will be used as a medium to help the little ones hide God’s word in their hearts.  I especially enjoy teaching Bible verses and other concepts (colors of the rainbow, names of the planets, etc.) through songs. Active preschoolers will be kept engaged not only through music and motion, but also by the construction of several simple musical crafts.   Students will have the opportunity to perform in casual settings and we may even participate in singing Christmas carols or other songs at a nursing home; however, this class is non-performance based so performing in public is never “required”.  Parents will be provided with a CD or links to the music that we are learning so the children can enjoy the songs at home. I look forward to a great year making music together!

The theme of our class is “Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord!” (Eph. 5:19)

Tuition: $20 per month ($100 per semester)

Pre-Requisites: None

Description:    These students will enjoy learning a wide variety of music, as well as basic theatrical concepts.  Foundations of music such as melodic pitch, basic sight-singing, rhythm, and dynamics will be taught and/or reinforced through games and hands-on-activities. Students will also be exposed to more advanced skills such as note reading, harmonization, and basic music theory. In addition to singing, skits and other drama activities and games will be an integral part of this course. These exercises are designed to practice team building and teach acting skills such as stage presence, vocal projection, improvisation, and auditioning.   In addition to one or two short community performances, we will work toward the production of a musical drama.   Students will learn their music, choreography and lines, and will also have the opportunity to help with behind the scenes aspects of putting on a performance such as helping to create sets and props.   A few outside rehearsals will be required in preparation for the drama, but this is the only time extra practices should be necessary.  Some of our past elementary productions have included “I Witness News, Live from Jericho”, “America the Land of the Free”, “Christmas in Reverse”, “A Tribute to the 50’s”, and “Willy Wonka Kids”.  My plan is to continue with the musical “Agape League” in the fall. (This was put on hold in the spring of 2020 due to Corona).  Since we never got to perform it, returning students will have the option of keeping their same roles.  New students are welcome to join in on the fun.  I look forward to a great year with our awesome students!
